Are you prepared for winter?
Winter is near and in preparation for colder weather, here are some simple home safety tips for you!
Replace all the batteries in your smoke and Carbon Monoxide detectors and test them to make sure they perform to the specifications in the manufacturers owner manual. If it does not perform as outlined in the manufacturers specifications, replace it!
Have a licensed and qualified plumbing and heating professional check your furnace and water for proper operation and performed needed maintenance in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications.
Got a fireplace? Over time, creosote can build up inside flues increasing the fire potential. Have a licensed and qualified fireplace contractor check and clean your fireplace and flues, and check the damper for proper operation.
Snow throwers need proper care and maintenance for your safety and proper operation. Have them checked pre-season by a licensed and qualified mechanic to make sure they are in proper operating condition and all safety devices and controls are working, Make sure all permanent obstructions that can’t be relocated/moved are marked with markers that are visible above the surface of the snow for ease of avoidance. Make sure tory, and other items are kept clear of the path of any snow thrower. Do not allow children or other people to walk/work/play within the path of travel and/or discharge radius to avoid being struck by the snow thrower of items discharged that could strike others and cause injury. Turn the snow thrower off before clearing blockages, refueling or performing any maintenance or adjustment.
These are just a few of the items you should be thinking about before, or during the operation of your snow thrower. For additional or more detailed safety, use, care, and maintenance information specific to your snow thrower, consult your owners manual.
